Standing Cypress blooms

I have some super cool Florida native plants coming to the Garden Shop this week! Eight species that I ordered from my supplier who grows them in 4″ containers are ready. woohoo! They’ve been added to the Garden Shop so you can go on ahead and place your order. Keep in mind that the containers these are in are smaller than the usual 1-gallon size I sell. That’s why the price for them is only $6.

Eastern Bluestar blooms

Howdy howdy. It got quite toasty warm this week, didn’t it?! A bit early in the year for that nonsense. Thankfully next week it’ll go back to normal April temps.

Because of those toasty temps, Ziva wasn’t my ride-along partner this week. I sure miss her when she isn’t doing deliveries and pick ups with me. She might be able to tag along some next week though.

Bee on Joe Pye Weed

So excited to tell you about another native plant supplier that I found! She grows her natives from seeds, is in Alachua County, and grows some plants I haven’t been able to find locally. Her plants are in 4″ containers and will be $6 each. To compare, the 1-gallon size I sell is a 6″ container. So these plants will be a bit smaller than the 1-gallons, but so is the price. The group she’s growing for me will be ready in the April/May/June timeframe. Here’s what I’m getting:

Viburnum obovatum 'Densa' in bloom

Mother Nature decided to remind us that it’s only February so winter is still lurking … even in Florida. Thankfully this is a short cold snap, with temps going back up to the beautiful 70s soon. One good thing about nativescaping is the plants don’t need any winter covering!

Upcoming Event

Ok, all my Alachua County peeps … this Sunday the 16th from 11:00 – 2:00 I’ll be selling native plants at an event in Gainesville! One of my customers owns a super cool shop called Life Unplastic, and of course I said yes when she asked if I wanted to be a vendor at her shop’s event. Her company is dedicated to helping us use less plastic in our lives. I love that concept.

Website Updates

I’m in the process of adding a new plug-in to the website which will give you more filtering choices to make it easier to find which plants you’re looking for. One of the choices is to see all the plants I have for sale or to see just the plants that are in stock. Please bear with me while I try to work out the kinks. It’ll probably take me a couple of days to learn all the ins and outs of the program.

Thanks.

Happy diggin’ in the dirt!

Eragrostis spectabilis, Purple Lovegrass

That dreadfully cold weather is gone for the moment, so it’s time to get back to picking up native plants for y’all to buy! Remember, in our area October through April is the perfect time to plant those perennials, shrubs, and trees. That’s because our soil doesn’t freeze which means their roots continue to grow through the winter. Then they are able to withstand the upcoming brutal summer much easier.
