I know y’all love Echinacea purpurea, Purple Coneflower, as much as I do. I was checking out the ones I have in stock this morning, and saw that one of them is blooming and quite a few have buds! And they’re doing that even though they are are still kinda small. How cute is that!

What’s super cool though is those kinda small plants turn into these gorgeous mature plants!

Those two beauties are part of a rain garden in a customer’s garden. But, you may say, purple coneflower doesn’t like that much water, how can it possible survive in a rain garden???? Good question. Ian has them growing on the upper slope of the rain garden, so they get the moist soil they need but very rarely the flooded soil. If I remember correctly, this is their second season in that rain garden. I took those pictures on April 29, which shows you how quickly they grew this spring. Now keep in mind that Ian is in Jacksonville, so his garden stays warmer in the winter than we do further inland. Plus, the rain garden is close to the house so the plants are getting residual winter heat from it.
I’ll do another post later showing all of the plants in his gorgeous rain garden.
Well, I added a few more plants to that order I’m getting on Friday the 9th. Here’s what I added. Click on the plant name to go to its description page to place your order.
- Symphyotrichum elliottii, Elliott’s Aster, 1-gallon
- Gelsemium sempervirens, Carolina Jessamine, 3-gallon
- Symphyotrichum georgiana, Georgia Aster, 1-gallon
- Symphyotrichum patens, Late Purple Aster, 1-gallon, new
- Fragaria virginiana, Wild Strawberry, 1-gallon
- Hibiscus grandiflorus, Swamp Rosemallow, 1-gallon
- Penstemon laevigatus, Eastern Smooth Beardtongue, 1-gallon
I could get only ten of the Symphyotrichum patens, Late Purple Aster, so don’t dawdle if you want some. I’ll have my supplier grow more for me, but it’ll be awhile before they’re ready. The picture at the top of the page is of Late Purple Aster.
I added “Container Size” to the Category List. So now you can sort plants by what container size they come in: 4″, 1-gallon, 3-gallon, and 7-gallon. The Category List, Filter By Stock Status, and Sort dropdowns and buttons are on the Garden Shop page. Be sure to use them to help find the perfect plant for your garden.

I’m hoping everyone got some of that wonderful rain last night and today. Yay for rain!
Happy diggin’ in the dirt!
